Sometimes project teams need the assistance of a facilitator, but don’t need a full-blown retreat. We have done more focused work with project teams or small staffs to help them get through a particularly complex or difficult conversation. In some cases facilitation was used when teams from different divisions (or even different organizations) needed to come together to clarify relationships or make important decisions.

The format varies by project. The facilitator will typically do some kind of research/data gathering prior to the meeting to determine key issues and possible land-mines and will work with the team leader(s) to design a structure for the meeting. Following the meeting, the facilitator helps with reporting and ensuring follow-up activities happen.
