It's hard to rush the development of a leadership team. There is nothing more important in organizations than leadership team performance. Senior management teams should devote regular time to examining and improving their team dynamics, but too many put it off. If you’re looking at it for the first time, then we typically follow an initial format similar to the staff retreat (individual interviews leading up to a one-day facilitated retreat). The end of that retreat, however, usually produces a list of more specific issues that need to be addressed, either with the team as a whole, or with individual managers and staff from their department. It varies by organization, but there will usually be one or two more facilitated meetings after the initial retreat. There is also typically some kind of coaching with the CEO or other team members, at least to assist in the followup on the items addressed in the retreat.
