We treat coaching as almost the same thing as consulting. Our role is to help the client see things clearer and behave in new ways that produce better results. We don't have a proprietary leadership competency inventory, and we don't put you through a battery of assessments or tests. We assume that you can quickly figure out what you need to work on. Creating leadership systems includes helping individuals develop as leaders. In providing coaching to individual leaders, we simply create a focused structure for one-on-one conversations between the leader and the consultant that help the leader choose a more effective path. Coaching sessions are scheduled on a regular basis (2-4 times a month, typically) and often done over the phone. Coaching contracts are often part of group interventions or larger projects, and time-spans are usually at least three to six months. A typical stand-alone leadership coaching project is set for six months, and is one of the only projects where we bill hourly (at a rate of $300 per hour). Coaching sessions tend to average 3 calls per month, but there are also other meetings to set goals and metrics for the project, assess progress along the way, and an occasional facilitated conversation with peers or colleagues (this puts the total contract in the $5,000 range).
