![]() | Getting to Yes: How to Negotiate Agreement Without Giving In by Roger Fisher and William Ury
This book is a classic in the negotiation and conflict resolution fields, having made popular the notion of “win/win” solutions to conflicts. By looking beyond parties’ positions (their specific answers to a given problem), the authors' process of principled negotiation helps parties uncover their interests behind the positions, which are often not in conflict. This book is easily applied to a variety of impasses in organizations that stifle productivity. It doesn’t make conflicts “easy,” but it represents an approach to negotiation that is still (surprisingly) unfamiliar, yet effective, in organizations.
